Shihan: I Want a Love Like...

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I wanted to share a great piece by my favorite spoken word artist, Shihan. Enjoy!

By the way, Shihan's one of my fans on Facebook. I was giddy like a little school girl the day he became a fan. I mean, I've been a HUGE fan of his for years! He's a famous spoken word artist, celebrity status and yet, he is a fan of my work! Wow.

Purse Organizer Complete!

Yesterday I mentioned how I wanted a purse organizer so that I could find things in my bag more easily. After finishing 2 orders today, I decided to reward myself by making making one.
I decided to make it in the new Miyabi print I picked up a few weekends ago. I am so in love with this print! You can probably tell by now, I kinda have a thing for cherry blossoms.

There are 7 pockets on the side you see pictured and 5 slightly larger pockets on the flip side. In total, it's 30" long x 6" high.

Here's what it looks like inside my bag:
I'm really pleased with the way my first attempt at a purse organizer came out! This baby is going to make my life soooooo much easier!

The Handbag Helper

You could say I'm a bit of a girly girl-- I love clothes and shoes. And of course, to go along with all that-- handbags! I have a tendency to be drawn towards those of the the larger variety which allow me to carry everything I could possibly need. However, no matter how beautiful and stylish the bag may be, I always have the hardest time finding things right when I need them the most! I'm constantly finding myself digging around for my keys when I'm running late, that packet of tissue when I just sneezed, that coin purse when I'm at the register paying for something.... Ugh!

Then, I came across this online.....
You can wrap it around and place it inside any bag something like this:
What an ingenious idea!! So simple, but yet I could see it giving me back minutes of my life! But most importantly, it will save me from constantly yelling to myself in frustration: "where the heck is that damn {fill in the blank}?!!"

I think I'm going to have to get me one of these... or rather... make one. = )

Generations of Inspiration

Women in my family have been sewing for generations. I guess you can say, I have my family to thank for the gift of design that has enabled me to create Angelina Fong Designs.

Pictured above is an old photo of my mom, aunt and grandparents. Here my grandfather is receiving an award at the 1959 National Convention in Los Angeles for having served during World War II. I love this photo for so many reasons-- 1. for the proud family moment captured on film 2. the youthful innocence of my mom and 3. for the fashionable outfits my mom and aunt are wearing which were handmade by my grandmother!
My mom is such a little fashion diva in this adorable outfit. From her pincurled hair, to the beautiful dress, right down to the gloves which complete the outfit-- it's such a complete and put together look.

I just have to take a moment to say thank you to my grandmother for passing her skills on to my mother, who in turn passed her skills on to me. As far back as I can remember, my mom was always sewing, crocheting and knitting and I wanted so much to be like her.

Mom, I hope I've made you proud.

The One With Unagi

The latest addition to my zip pouch collection is inspired by one of my favorite "Friends" episodes, "The One with Unagi."
The Makimoto Zip Pouch is made from one of my new favorite prints featuring an assortment of sushi. Did I also mention that I'm a big sushi lover?
I used a cheery yellow fabric with white flowers for the lining.
Sushi anyone?

Just for fun, I've included a clip from the "Friends" episode:
